Depending on what you are hoping to achieve through massage therapy the regularity of your treatments will impact this. For maintaining good health we recommend getting a massage every 4-6 weeks. If you have high demands on your physical body through work or sport you may need to come more often. If you suffer from chronic pain or have a soft tissue injury you may require 2 or 3 treatments at weekly intervals initially, after which an assessment of the treatment's effectiveness and your goals of health will determine the regularity of your subsequent massages.
We understand that sometimes things happen and you need to cancel or reschedule. If it is more than 24 hours prior to your appointment you are able to make the necessary changes yourself online - follow the link on your booking confirmation email. We prefer you to give us 24 hours notice but predicting illnesses or other unforeseen events is not always possible. We don't charge a cancellation fee but rather put our faith in you that you don't abuse that privilege.
We are not able to issue you with a Health Fund Provider Number which means you are not able to claim your treatment through your health fund. Our prices are discounted to reflect this as most Remedial Massage Therapists who have a provider number charge in excess of $85/hour.
Apogee Massage Therapy is a home based business. When you arrive Susan will meet you at the front door and either show you into the treatment room or waiting area. There is a bathroom facility attached to the treatment room if you need it. Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out a short medical form, after which Susan will discus with you your health concerns and what you are hoping to achieve through your massage treatment. Allow an extra 15 minutes for your first appointment. You are only billed for the time spent massaging as we consider our customer care to be of vital importance. Susan will then step out of the room while you get settled on the massage table. During your treatment Susan will adjust the pressure of the massage to suit your needs and monitor your comfort. Once the massage is finished, Susan will step out of the room and allow you to get dressed again. At the completion of the treatment you will have opportunity to give feedback and to finalise the payment. Subsequent appointments can be booked in or you can do this at a later date through our on-line booking software.
We provide you with a massage gown for your treatment which you wear over top of your underpants. The gown, if you choose to use it, will keep you covered during the course of your treatment. If you have long hair it is best to tie it up to prevent excessive oil from getting in your hair during the massage.
Full payment is to be made at the completion of your treatment. We accept AMEX, Visa, Mastercard and cash.
We are qualified to administer safe and effective pregnancy massages from 0 -42 weeks gestation. There are a few instances when a health concern in the mum-to-be make it inadvisable to receive a massage but Susan will thoroughly check all your health concerns to make sure there is no risk to you or your baby. Pregnancy causes a lot of changes to your body and massage therapy is a very effective tool in keeping reducing pain and relaxing you.
From 0 - 12 weeks gestation it is still safe to lie on your tummy with extra support under your pelvis and chest while receiving a massage as the fundal height of the uterus is still below the pubic bone and completely protected. From 13 weeks gestation onwards until the baby is born we apply the massage techniques to your body in a side lying position. This method is considered the safest and most effective way to release your muscles during pregnancy. Some mums-to-be will choose to adopt a side lying position from week one due to religious or comfort reasons.
Sometimes if you are feeling unwell from a virus or cold, a massage can actually make you feel worse. When you receive a deep tissue massage treatment your therapist will work deeply in your muscles and they can feel quite tired afterwards. Combine that with feeling a bit miserable while your body is fighting off a virus and you are going to be a bit smashed afterwards! A good rule of thumb, if you aren't well enough to go to the gym or do a solid work-out session, then you shouldn't be getting a massage either. It is much better to reschedule your appointment, rest your body and come when you are feeling well.
